Titus 2:4-5

I was able to meet with one of my mentors for breakfast yesterday for a much-needed catch up. We enjoyed sharing with one another how we were doing and what God had been teaching us.

I like being with her because she’s fun, funny, encouraging, edifying, and she challenges me.

She is a beautiful person inside and out.

I was in her small group for several years and God has and continues to use her to strengthen and encourage me in my Christian walk. She fills this space in many lives as a mentor, friend, and sister-in-Christ. For years she has taught and led small groups, in fact, several of her previous small group students are now teaching and leading small groups themselves.

Mature sheep reproduce.

She is a living, breathing example of Titus 2:4-5 and she is the kind of woman many of us aspire to be. If I need prayer or counsel I can count on her to hold a confidence, pray with and for me, and share truth and godly counsel with me, not by telling me what she thinks, or what I want to hear, but by pointing me back to Christ and God’s word.

My church family is packed with women like her, who love and walk in the fear of The Lord and live their lives in such a way to teach others to do the same. These women are the fruit of a healthy pulpit as a healthy church body starts with a healthy pulpit.

Our pastor recently preached a message on Titus 2:3-5 and while I listened I thought of mentors I have had through the years. Each one has taught me how to walk in a healthy fear of God and seek to glorify Him in and through my life. I am thankful for these mentors who helped and continue to help me by offering a listening ear, encouragement, correction, and redirection. I am thankful for their time and investment in my life.

If you are an older woman of the faith, look behind you and reach out, younger generations need you to show us the way. If you are a younger woman looking for a mentor, look around and pursue mentoring opportunities to those around you. There is no shortage of people in need of needing or wanting companionship that mentoring can offer. Also, you’re considering therapy, I provide counseling for Christians in a safe, faith-based environment.
